What is “Orthodontics” (Specialist in Orthodontics)?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental, skeletal and facial irregularities.  The Specialist in Orthodontics (or often as “Orthodontist”) designs and applies suitable corrective appliances, such as braces, to bring teeth, jaws and lips into proper alignment and to achieve facial balance.

In Hong Kong, orthodontic specialist qualification is obtained after 5 years undergraduate dental program at the University followed by a minimum of 6 years postgraduate study and supervised training to gain additional qualifications to satisfy the requirements of the Dental Council of Hong Kong.
